Little Warriors Cancer Foundation

Why Little Warriors exists

The medical journey is only part of what families carry. Little Warriors is being shaped around the practical, emotional and social burdens that surround serious childhood illness.

Our purpose is to strengthen the support around children and caregivers without replacing doctors, hospitals or clinical decision-making. The Foundation is separate from Dr Mathibe's private medical practice and does not automatically receive or access practice patient information.

The need

What happens outside the ward matters too.

Families can face transport costs, lost income, food insecurity, long travel distances, disrupted schooling, emotional strain and the practical burden of repeated hospital visits. Little Warriors is being designed around those non-clinical barriers.

The response

Support built around dignity and clear boundaries.

The planned model combines practical family assistance, psychosocial support, awareness, hospital-linked initiatives and capacity building while keeping clinical decisions with qualified treating teams.

Founder & clinical perspective

Dr DM Mathibe

Dr Mathibe's work in paediatric oncology and haematology informs the Foundation's understanding of the pressures families face around serious childhood illness. His clinical credibility supports the vision; it does not replace the independent governance the Foundation is still building.

Independent board composition and governance roles will be published only once formally approved.

Principles guiding the build

Child first

Dignity, privacy and safety must guide programme decisions.

Family centred

Support should recognise the caregivers and siblings around the child.

Accountable

Funding, partnerships and public claims must be traceable and governed.

Collaborative

The Foundation should complement healthcare and existing community services, not duplicate them.
